Good News Express!

Team,

It has been some time since I have used this medium to communicate.  Now that we have Gone Google, the email list therein is a quick and easy option.  I thought I'd go back to this medium today to share some good news.  Let's start with attendance.  Yesterday, 92% of our 10th graders were present and ready to test.  Today, 93%.  To my knowledge, these are the highest single day attendance rates this year for grade 10 (right now the average is hovering around 89% for the year).  Kudos and "thank you" 10th grade team who contacted homes this past weekend!

More good news: Welcome to BHS, Emmitt Wyche!  Emmitt will be joining the guidance team in coming weeks in a grant-funded position.   He will work with juniors and seniors and their families specifically in the realm of college advising.  Emmitt is a knowledgeable and energetic educator.  We are lucky to have him.  Did I mention that he will be with us until the end of the 2014-2015 school year at a minimum?

More good news: Daly Field is no longer a proposal, it is reality.  By way of reminder, Daly Field is right next to Community Rowing on Soldiers Field Road.  Simmons College has agreed to foot the bill to construct turf fields and tennis courts to be shared between the college and Brighton High.  We will now have our very own home field in the Brighton community!  I'll keep you posted on the developments, but, with any luck, the field will be ready for use this fall.  We'll see.

If you see Renel Jean, congratulate him.  The Boys Right of Passage, a 9th grade boys mentoring program, has been a major success.  In recent weeks, Renel has arranged for  inspiring guest speakers and trips, most recently to the Nashua Street jail.  In my humble opinion, this has been a moving experience for the boys involved.

Lastly, see our students in the news... here and here.

There will be a New Teachers meeting tomorrow from 2:15-3:15pm in room 121.

That is all.  Enjoy your day!

Best,
Pat
